報告人簡介：

       王博潼，2006年本科畢業于北京大學，2012年獲得普渡大學博士學位，目前是威斯康星大學麥迪遜分校數學系副教授，2019年獲美國斯隆獎。他的研究興趣主要是代數簇的拓撲學，以及將其應用于組合數學、代數統計等方面。與June Huh（2022年Fields獎得主）合作，于2017年證明了組合數學中著名的Dowling-Wilson猜想，其結果發表在數學四大頂尖期刊Acta Math.。他的多篇論文發表在Acta Math，J. Eur. Math. Soc.，Mem. Amer. Math. Soc.，J. Reine Angew. Math. ， Adv. Math. ，Math. Ann.等著名數學期刊上。

報告摘要：

       In this talks, I will give a survey of some application of Hodge theory in resolving combinatorial problems. The two main results are the Heron-Rota-Welsh conjecture about the log-concavity of matroid characteristic polynomials, and the Dowling -Wilson conjecture about the Whitney numbers of the second kind. We will focus on the realizable case, when combinatorial invariants are encoded in the topology of algebraic varieties, and the conjectures can be derived from the Hodge theory of algebraic varieties.
